Happy Holiday Season! Regardless of what holiday you celebrate, this is one of the best times of the year. I personally celebrate Hannukah and New Year's. Around this time of year I get a lot of questions about my tree and why I do New Year's a bit different from the rest of my friends.
I was actually born in St. Petersburg, Russia and moved to the states when I was 2 years old. New Year's is a huge cultural holiday in Russia. It is entirely secular and has no association to religion what so ever- I suppose it is one of the greatest remnants of the Soviet Union! Even though I'm Jewish, I grew up with a tree, a Father Frost, and presents under the tree on New Year's Eve. It definitely is hard for many to disassociate the tree with a traditional Christmas Tree but it is something that means a lot to me and represents my heritage.
This year I decided to get my first real tree in my new apartment! I am excited to continue on the tradition with my boyfriend in our new home (queue a thankful emoji)! I wanted to share with you an amazing DIY wrapping hack I found this year that has up-ed my wrapping skills. I hope you enjoy my take on this little DIY "How To!"
HOW TO: DIY Decorative Bows
Here is a quick tutorial on how to make these awesome decorative bows from left over scraps of wrapping paper!
Supplies you will need:
Scraps of wrapping paper
1. First step is to cut vertical slits along your wrapping scrap. You can fold your scrap in half like I did or just do it alone one side. It really depends on how thick you would like the bow to be!
2. Now you are going to want to curl the ribbon ends you just created! To create the natural curl, just use the side blades of your scissors. Grasp one end of the ribbon with your hand and use the scissors to scorn the ribbon. If this step doesn't make sense, there are lots of youtube videos that demonstrate ribbon curling! Below is the finished look
3. Now for the fun part- fold the curled pieces into itself like an accordion and tape it secure. You will then have your finished decorative bow!
This is super easy and an affordable way to make your wrapping look more professional. I personally love how my bows match my wrapping paper! I may be a little obsessed with black and white flannel...as you can see by my matching pants (queue the laugher). As always, I'm not afraid to over do it!
I hope this little wrapping hack helps you this holiday season regardless of what you celebrate!
