It has been quite some time since I have posted on here! My focus has been primarily on instagram these past few months and to be honest it has been exhausting, super competitive, and was starting to feel more like a chore than the creative outlet I first sought it out to be. I've decided that in order to make this real (and most importantly fun for me), I need to do more of what I love- and that is writing. Less focus on likes and follows and more on sharing the real me and the things that matter and inspire me most.
This season (year to be honest) has flown by. Here in Boston we are starting to feel that frigid chill that unfortunately will only get worse for the next ~3 months. One of my favorite things to do in any season is to visit SoWA Boston. The SoWa Art + Design District in the southend of Boston is a community of artist studios, galleries, boutiques, show rooms, and restaurants. It is such a unique and vibrant spot- it's hard to imagine that it was once an area of abandoned warehouses. It is now home to an awesome and inspiring artistic community. It is great anytime of the year but I think it is especially special during the holiday season. I thought it would be great to share my most recent SoWa trip with you!
One of my favorite things to do to unwind is to thrift shop. Even thrift window shopping does the trick for me. There is something about going around, seeing and touching old relics, nicknacks, clothes, pictures, baskets, or whatever other trinkets I can get my eyes on. I love wondering who owned them and what these items meant or represented to them. Old things just hold more meaning to me- they tell a story and at one point in time they made someone happy.
SoWA has a vintage market that is basically a compilation of all the unique and super dope things you would spend double the time scoping out at your local GoodWill or Savers. For the holidays it is decked out with festive lights and themed relics.
One of my favorite vendors at SoWa, is Blue Bandana Relics. Keith's displays will catch your eye and his unique collection of antiques and collection of Americana items. Immediately you can tell he is a passionate collector and treasure hunter:
Each vendor has their own ever changing collection. There is a lady who strictly sells prints of old city maps, another who carries vintage sweaters and furs, and another who sells vintage brooches and jewelry.
Anything found at the SoWa Vintage Market will undoubtably beat out a mass produced item from Urban Outfitters in both its authenticity and uniqueness. The prices are definitely more pricey than those at a Savers or Goodwill, however SoWa cuts out the searching time. You also never know the value of a piece until you put in your research. I strictly recommend googling the brand or markings on an item to find out more about your little treasures. I've found some pretty cool pieces of history that way.
After some thrifting therapy at SoWa, my friend and I decided to check out The Gallows for some drinks. I had see this trendy American style restaurant and bar because of their life size Ouija board.
Needless to say, The Gallows, was popping with people and some good throwback jams. The atmosphere was urban, relaxed, and welcoming. My drink, Lie to Me, was a twist on the classic gin and tonic made with raspberry gin, st. elder, and lemon. It honestly had to be one of my favorite all time drinks- sweet but not too sweet, a little tang, and a classy playfulness I was craving for. It was a perfect ending to a spontaneous trip to Boston's Southend.
